“And then God answered: ‘Write this. Write what you see. Write it out in big block letters so that it can be read on the run. This vision-message is a witness pointing to what’s coming. It aches for the coming—it can hardly wait! And it doesn’t lie. If it seems slow in coming, wait. It’s on its way. It will come right on time.” Habakkuk 2:2-3 MSG
My wife loves to make lists. She comes from a long line of list makers. They make some beautiful lists. Long lists. Overwhelming lists. The come in a variety of styles. Yellow notepads, scraps of paper, the back of an envelope, digital notes… the list goes on.
The problem with lists is they rarely get done. They get lost. They get destroyed. And worse yet they are overwhelming. Have you every started a to do list and not finished it? And everyone’s hands went up in the air. Yep. We’ve all done it.
Don’t get me wrong. List’s have their place. Just NOT when it comes to launching a business or executing a dream. Save your lists for your grocery trip.
So what do you do instead?
While writing out your list of “to-dos” for kicking your dream into high gear may sound like the typical list, here’s what you do:
Take a stack of notecards and write out 1 task or to do per card. Don’t be a cheater and try to cram in several ideas per card. 1 per card. That’s the rule. Be as specific as possible. If you were writing a book, you might write a card that says “Write outline” or “choose main character’s name”.
Remember, 1 card per task, no more.
Now take those cards and stack them up in priority. You can even organize them into stages. But the goal here is to end up with a stack of cards that represent your dream.
Now to kick it into high gear.
Take the first card on the top and do it right now. Don’t wait. Don’t hesitate. Right now.
You now have permission to do as many cards as you want. Some cards might take 2 weeks, others might take 2 minutes. The point here is to take your time.
Now have at it!
